Programs for Little Ones
Tuesdays at 10am
Ages 2 to 5 years old
Books, songs, rhymes, flannel board stories, puppets, and more come together for our weekly storytime! We’ll all have fun playing and learning together. Storytime lasts about half an hour followed by playtime.
Move & Groove / Let’s Make Music
Wednesdays at 10am
Best for 18 months and up
Dance, move, play, and sing together as we celebrate this summer’s music theme! We’ll alternate each week: Move & Groove will have recorded music and lots of dancing, Let’s Make Music will focus on creating rhythms and music together. Both will be lots of fun!
Thursdays at 10am
Ages 3 to 5
Make art like Henri Matisse, make music like Trombone Shorty, explore science like Marie Curie… We’ll read a book about a famous master of their craft (music, art, or science) and then create and explore based on their life’s work. Music on June 21st, July 12th, and August 2nd. Art on June 28th, July 19th, and August 9th. Science on July 5th, July 26th, and August 16th.
Fridays at 10am
Ages 0 to 36 months
Baby’s first storytime! Little learners and their caregivers are invited to join us for songs, knee bounces, tickles, books, and puppets. This storytime is about 20 minutes long followed by playtime.
Peppa Pig Party
Wednesday, July 11th at 1pm
Celebrate all things Peppa (and Teddy and George and his “dine-saw”) with games, crafts, and fun!
Thomas the Tank Engine Party
Wednesday, August 8th at 1pm
Full steam ahead for fun! We’ll have crafts, games, and activities about Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends.
Programs for Elementary Kids (Grades K-5)
Mondays at 1pm
Get crafty at our weekly creation lab. Bring your imagination and your willingness to try; we’ll provide the rest.
June 25th: Painting Party: Paint your own canvas.
July 2nd: Lava Lamps: Mix up a mesmerizing lava lamp.
July 9th: Plant a Seed: Decorate a planter and plant a seed.
July 16th: Shrinky Dinks: Make keychains, jewelry, or zipper pulls with amazing shrinking plastic.
July 23rd: LEGO Build: Enjoy the library’s large LEGO collection and create something great.
July 30th: Miniatures and Doll Rooms: Make and decorate tiny dollhouse rooms with miniature furniture.
August 6th: Sock Owls: Stuff and decorate a no-sew owl friend made from a sock.
August 13th: Bubbles: Big, small, square, and colored bubbles!
June 20th at 1pm
Ever want to jump into the Candyland board? Have you played Yahtzee with dice that are bigger than your head? We’ll have these giant games and more for you to play with your family or friends.
Flower Fairies and Fairy Houses
June 27th at 1pm
Make a fairy using wire, beads, and flowers, and then make a house for your fairy to live! Lots of natural materials combined with your creativity will make your fairy feel right at home.
Winter in July
July 18th at 1pm
Summer is hot (duh). So let’s remember that it could be a lot colder with these fun crafts and games! Make some snowflakes, experiment with some cold science, and maybe even have a snowball fight!
Fairy Tale Bonanza!
August 15th at 1pm
Build houses like the three little pigs, make a perfect bed for the princess and the pea, and see how many beans really fit on Jack’s beanstalk as we celebrate Fairy Tales!
Meet the Masters
Thursdays at 1pm

Instrument Petting Zoo
Saturday, July 21st at 10am
We welcome local musicians from the high school who will show off their instruments, play a little something, and then let you touch the instruments for yourself. Do you maybe want to play the trombone some day? Come hold one!
The Magical World of Music
Wednesday, July 25th at 2pm
World traveler and magician Mr. Jim invites you to experience music from around the world! This show combines music, photos, and magic for the whole family to enjoy.
Music Lady Jukebox
Wednesday, August 1st at 1pm
Music games and activities for everyone to rock out to in this exciting and interactive show with Music Lady Beverly. We’ll choose songs from the jukebox and maybe even make up some of our own!
Once Upon a Raptor from the Kalamazoo Nature Center
Tuesday, August 7th at 1pm
Is your life different from a bird of prey’s life? Maybe not as different as you think! Go into the lives and habits of four unique birds with this presentation by the Kalamazoo Nature Center and get a chance to meet a real live raptor, too!
Summer Reading Closing Party
Saturday, August 18th from 12 to 2pm
Finish off the summer in style with drop-in crafts, games, and an ice cream social.
Programs for Older Kids (Ages 8 to 12)
Hula Hoops; June 19th
Make your own Hula Hoop, decorate it, and then see how long you can keep it in the air.
Cake Pops; June 26th
This delicate and delicious craft takes some patience (and the ability to laugh when it doesn’t turn out quite as planned….). We’ll have cake, frosting, candy melts, and decorations to help create mouthwatering masterpieces (or a delicious fail).
Minute to Win It; July 3rd
Challenge yourself in a series of short games – can you balance dice on a popsicle stick? What if the popsicle stick is in your mouth? Can you stack up and take down a set of cups in less than a minute? Let’s find out!
Candy Science; July 10th
Candy isn’t just for eating; candy can be for playing! We’ll see what happens with skittles in water and (weather permitting) put some Mentos in Diet Coke as well as other experiments.
Terrariums; July 17th
Sand, rocks, dirt, and a few extra bits make for a peaceful living terrarium. Come plant one with succulents then take it home to decorate your window.
Make Your Own Teddy Bear; July 24th
Everyone needs a cozy buddy – come make one out of fleece! We’ll be sewing and stuffing our own bears, so make sure you come with extra patience and willingness to try.
Harry Potter Party; July 31st
Celebrate the boy who lived on his birthday! We’ll mix some potions, make Hogwarts scarves, acquire a wand, and even play tabletop quidditch.
Chocolate Olympics; August 14th
Ever done a Whopper relay? Or played Pictionary with dark chocolate? How well do you know the insides of your favorite chocolate bars? Come play with chocolate and find out!
